Hanuman Shringar: Dressing the Divine

The Shringar Puja is a heartwarming ritual where Lord Hanuman is adorned with sindoor, fresh flowers, sacred clothes, and ornaments. The act of dressing and beautifying the deity reflects a devotee’s gratitude and reverence. Sindoor, a key element of the Shringar, holds a special significance in Hanuman worship. As per legend, Tulsidas applied sindoor to Hanuman, symbolizing his devotion to Lord Rama. Inspired by this, devotees offer sindoor to Hanuman, which is believed to bring strength and vitality into their lives.

Hanuman Chola Puja: An Offering of Faith

The Chola Puja is a sacred ritual in which devotees offer a new robe, or chola, to Lord Hanuman. This act of devotion symbolizes the devotee’s surrender and faith, seeking Hanuman’s blessings for protection and strength. The robes, typically red or orange, represent purity, energy, and spiritual power—qualities synonymous with Lord Hanuman.

Historically, Chola Puja has been a key part of Hanuman worship, particularly at the Sankat Mochan Temple in Varanasi, where it holds immense significance. Devotees believe that offering a chola here ensures Hanuman’s favor and shields them from harm. The ritual highlights the selfless devotion that Hanuman embodies, inspiring devotees to lead lives rooted in faith and courage.

Correct method of offering chola to Lord Hanuman

1. It is considered most auspicious to offer chola to Lord Hanuman on Tuesday or Saturday. 
2. After taking bath on this day, wear red clothes.
3. Clean the idol of Lord Hanuman with Ganga Jal. 
4. Mix jasmine oil in vermilion and first apply it on the feet of Lord Hanuman and then offer chola to the idol from top to feet.
5. Offer silver work, sacred thread and clean clothes to Lord Hanuman. 
6. Write Shri Ram with vermilion on 21 or 11 peepal leaves and offer them to Lord Hanuman.
7. Offer gram, jaggery, sweets, betel nut to Lord Hanuman and then light incense and recite Hanuman Chalisa.
8. Do the aarti of Lord Hanuman and take some vermilion from the feet of Lord Hanuman and apply it on the forehead. It is said that by doing this, all the troubles of a person are removed.
