Significance of Performing Sundar Kand Path on Auspicious tithi

The Sundar Kand begins with Lord Hanuman’s heroic leap across the ocean to reach Lanka in search of Goddess Sita. Along the way, he encounters several challenges:

  • Surasa, a celestial being, tests his intellect and devotion.
  • Simhika, a demon, tries to devour him, but Hanuman defeats her with ease.
  • Hanuman courageously overcomes the Rakshasas (demonic forces) in Ravana’s kingdom.

Upon finding Goddess Sita in the Ashoka Vatika, Hanuman inspires her with hope and delivers Lord Rama’s message. Demonstrating his unparalleled strength, he sets Lanka ablaze after destroying Ravana’s forces, leaving a powerful warning.

Texts like the Ramcharitmanas by Tulsidas glorify these acts, portraying Hanuman as the epitome of devotion and divine strength. The Sundar Kand is a timeless testament to Hanuman’s role as the ultimate devotee and protector, inspiring courage and faith in devotees.

Procedure to perform Sundar Kand Path

Starting with Gauri Ganesh Kalash Puja, the pandit ji leads this journey, with a group of pandits supporting him, playing the dholak, Manjeera, and other instruments as they sing Kirtans and Bhajans in praise of Lord Shri Ram and Bhakta Hanuman.

In all, Sundar kand has seven Dohas. The investigation of Sita by Lord Shri Ram, Hanuman, Jamwant, and the Vanar Sena becomes halted close to a sea that seems hard to traverse. Hanuman uses his ability to fly to traverse the ocean in search of Maa Sita.

Upon arriving in Lanka, Lord Hanuman receives assistance from Vibhisana, Ravana’s brother, in locating the Ashok Vatika, the site where the demon king of Lanka, Ravana, had imprisoned Sita. After greeting Sita, Hanuman presents her with his identification and announces his connection to Lord Ram.
