The Durga Saptashati Path, also revered as Devi Mahatmya or Chandi Path, is a highly sacred scripture devoted to Maa Durga, enshrined in the Markandeya Purana. Comprising 700 Sanskrit shlokas across 13 chapters, this divine granth chronicles the goddess’s three supreme battles against demonic forces that threatened cosmic balance—each representing the victory of dharma over adharma.

The scripture is divided into three Charitas:

Prathama Charita (Madhu-Kaitabh Vadh),

Madhyama Charita (Mahishasur Mardini), and

Uttama Charita (Shumbh-Nishumbh Vadh),

Each battle highlights the profound power, compassion, and motherly grace of Goddess Durga. The Path also includes protective and devotional verses like the Devi Kavacham, Argala Stotram, and Keelakam, which invoke divine grace and unlock deeper blessings for the devotee.

Traditionally chanted during Navratri, this path can also be recited on auspicious days such as Saptami, Ashtami, Fridays, or as per one’s Janma Nakshatra. With its deep symbolism and vibrant mythology, the Durga Saptashati not only inspires but also purifies the devotee’s soul, fostering both material and spiritual upliftment.
