Stuti & Sloka For The Temple
कर्पूरगौरं करुणावतारं संसारसारं भुजगेन्द्रहारम्।
सदा वसन्तं हृदयारविन्दे भवं भवानीसहितं नमामि॥
This ancient stotra salutes Shiva and Parvati together, symbolizing the balance of energy, grace, and strength.
Story of The Temple
According to Kashi Khanda, Goddess Parvati herself meditated at this sacred spot to merge with Lord Shiva in the Ardhanarishwara form. The original Kedareshwar Shivlinga is believed to have emerged naturally (Swayambhu) and is older than the famed Kedarnath Jyotirlinga.
During the Mughal invasion under Aurangzeb, this temple was attacked. The scar still visible on the back of Nandi Ji, outside the sanctum, stands as a silent witness to that dark chapter. Yet, the temple stood resilient, and the Shivlinga remained untouched—testament to divine protection.
It is also said that Kashi’s liberation power becomes complete only after receiving darshan of Gauri Kedareshwar, making it a crucial stop for pilgrims and sadhaks alike.
