This year, Darsha Amavasya coincides with a Sunday, making it an extremely rare and spiritually charged day for ancestral rituals. According to Shiv Mahapuran (Koti Rudra Samhita, Adhyay 28, Shloka 8), the number of Anna (grain) seeds offered in Annadan Seva at Ganga banks in Kashi grants that many thousands of years in heavenly abode to our forefathers.

On this day, all Pitra Devtas descend to Kashi, awaiting tarpan, shraddha, and annadan from their descendants. It becomes the sacred duty (Pitra Rin) of every devotee to honor their ancestors by offering Maha Annadan Seva in this Avimukta Kshetra.
